This cozy apple cider sangria with cinnamon is a quick and easy fall drink that combines crisp apple cider, dry white wine, and warm cinnamon for a perfectly balanced, crowd-pleasing beverage. Ready in just 10 minutes, it’s ideal for cozy evenings and holiday gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 bottle dry white wine (750 ml), such as Pinot Grigio or Sauvignon Blanc
  • 2 cups apple cider
  • 1/2 cup apple brandy or Calvados
  • 1/4 cup honey or maple syrup
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 1 large apple (Honeycrisp or Fuji), thinly sliced
  • 1 large orange, thinly sliced into rounds
  • Optional: 1 cup sparkling water or ginger ale
  • Ice cubes for serving

Instructions

  1. Prepare the fruit: Wash the apple and orange thoroughly. Slice the apple into thin rounds or half-moons about 1/4 inch thick, leaving the peel on. Slice the orange into thin rounds and remove any seeds. Set aside.
  2. Dissolve the sweetener: In a small bowl, combine the honey or maple syrup with 2 tablespoons of warm water. Stir until completely dissolved.
  3. Combine the liquids: In a large pitcher (at least 2 quarts), pour the entire bottle of white wine. Add the apple cider and apple brandy. Stir gently with a wooden spoon to combine.
  4. Add the sweetener and cinnamon: Pour the dissolved honey or maple syrup into the pitcher. Drop in the cinnamon sticks. Stir again gently but thoroughly.
  5. Add the fruit: Gently slide the apple and orange slices into the pitcher, arranging them so they are visible through the glass.
  6. Chill: Cover the pitcher with plastic wrap or a lid and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or overnight for best flavor.
  7. Serve: When ready to serve, fill glasses with ice. Give the sangria a gentle stir, then pour over ice, ensuring each glass gets some fruit slices and a bit of cinnamon. If using sparkling water or ginger ale, add a splash to each glass right before serving.
  8. Garnish (optional): Add a fresh cinnamon stick to each glass for extra visual appeal. You can also add a thin apple slice on the rim of the glass.

Notes

The sangria deepens in flavor as it sits; it’s even better on day two. For a warm version, combine all ingredients except sparkling water in a slow cooker and heat on low for 2-3 hours. For a non-alcoholic version, replace wine with non-alcoholic white wine or sparkling apple cider and omit brandy. Toasting cinnamon sticks in a dry skillet for 30 seconds per side before adding enhances flavor.
