These crispy, creamy, and spicy mummy bites are the perfect Halloween appetizer. Wrapped in golden crescent dough and filled with a jalapeño popper mixture, they’re a crowd-pleasing treat that disappears fast.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 2 medium fresh jalapeños, finely diced (seeds and membranes removed for milder heat)
  • 4 slices bacon, cooked crispy and crumbled
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 can (8 ounces) refrigerated crescent roll dough
  • All-purpose flour, for dusting
  • 2 tablespoons cream cheese, softened (for eyes)
  • Black sesame seeds or small black peppercorns (for eyes)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone mat.
  2. Cook bacon until crispy; crumble into small pieces. Finely dice jalapeños, removing seeds and membranes if desired.
  3. In a mixing bowl, combine softened cream cheese, shredded cheddar, diced jalapeños, crumbled bacon, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Mix until evenly distributed.
  4. Unroll crescent dough onto a lightly floured surface. Press perforations together to seal into one solid sheet. Roll out to about 1/8-inch thickness if desired.
  5. Cut dough into 12 strips, each about 1 inch wide and 4-5 inches long.
  6. Scoop about 1 tablespoon of filling and roll into a small ball. Place at one end of a dough strip and wrap the strip around the filling, overlapping slightly, leaving a small gap near the top for the face. Press end to seal.
  7. Place each wrapped bite seam-side down on the prepared baking sheet, spacing about 1 inch apart.
  8. Bake for 12-15 minutes, until dough is golden brown and filling is bubbly.
  9. Let cool on baking sheet for 5 minutes.
  10. Place 2 tablespoons softened cream cheese in a small piping bag or zip-top bag. Snip a tiny corner off the bag.
  11. Pipe two small dots of cream cheese onto the exposed filling area of each mummy bite. Press a black sesame seed or small peppercorn into each dot to create eyes.
  12. Serve immediately.

Notes

Don’t overfill; stick to about 1 tablespoon per bite. Keep dough cold for easier handling. Seal dough seams well to prevent unraveling. Pipe eyes right before serving to avoid melting. For a milder version, use pickled jalapeños. For a dairy-free option, use vegan cream cheese and dairy-free cheddar.
