A fun and festive Halloween taco dip with creamy layers, refried beans, and sour cream tombstones. Perfect for parties and guaranteed to be a hit.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cans (16 oz each) refried beans
  • 1 packet (1 oz) taco seasoning mix
  • 1 cup sour cream (full-fat)
  • 1 cup cream cheese, softened
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 2 cups shredded lettuce
  • 2 medium tomatoes, diced and seeded
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup black olives, sliced
  • 1/4 cup green onions, sliced
  • 1/2 cup additional sour cream (for tombstones)
  • 1 tablespoon milk
  • Black and orange food coloring (or black gel)
  • Round tortilla chips (for serving)
  • Optional: gummy worms or candy bones

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Bean Base: In a medium bowl, combine the refried beans and taco seasoning mix. Stir until fully incorporated. Spread evenly into the bottom of a 9×13-inch dish.
  2. Make the Creamy Layer: In a separate bowl, beat the softened cream cheese until smooth. Add 1 cup sour cream and mayonnaise, and mix until combined. Spread gently over the bean base.
  3. Add the Toppings: Sprinkle shredded lettuce evenly over the creamy layer. Follow with diced tomatoes, shredded cheddar cheese, black olives, and green onions.
  4. Create the Tombstones: In a small bowl, mix the additional 1/2 cup sour cream with milk until smooth. Spread onto a parchment-lined baking sheet to about 1/4-inch thick. Freeze for 10-15 minutes until firm.
  5. Cut the Tombstones: Use a small round cookie cutter or shot glass to cut out tombstone shapes. Transfer to a plate and refrigerate.
  6. Assemble the Graveyard: Arrange the sour cream tombstones on top of the dip. Optionally, add gummy worms and write ‘RIP’ on tombstones with black food coloring.
  7. Chill and Serve: Cover and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes before serving. Serve with round tortilla chips.

Notes

Use full-fat sour cream for stable tombstones. Seed tomatoes to prevent watery dip. Chill at least 30 minutes before serving. Can be assembled a day ahead (add tombstones just before serving).
