These Easy Candy Corn Fruit Skewers are a quick, festive Halloween snack that looks like candy corn but tastes like a tropical vacation. Made with fresh pineapple, mandarin oranges, and whipped topping, they are a crowd-pleasing treat that comes together in under 15 minutes.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups fresh pineapple, cut into 1/2-inch cubes
  • 1 (15-ounce) can mandarin oranges in juice, drained
  • 1 (8-ounce) tub frozen whipped topping, thawed
  • 2024 short cocktail skewers or popsicle sticks
  • Optional: shredded coconut or edible glitter for garnish

Instructions

  1. Prep the Pineapple: Cut off the top and bottom of the pineapple, stand it upright, and slice off the skin in vertical strips. Remove any remaining brown eyes. Cut the pineapple into quarters lengthwise, remove the tough core, and slice each quarter into 1/2-inch thick pieces. Cut those into 1/2-inch cubes to yield about 2 cups.
  2. Drain the Oranges: Open the can of mandarin oranges and pour into a colander. Let drain for at least 5 minutes. Gently shake to remove excess liquid, then lay the segments on a paper towel-lined plate and pat dry.
  3. Thaw the Whipped Topping: If frozen, move the whipped topping to the refrigerator about 4 hours before assembling. It should be soft enough to spoon but still thick enough to hold its shape.
  4. Assemble the Skewers: Take a cocktail skewer and thread one pineapple cube onto it first, pushing it about halfway down. Next, add one mandarin orange segment next to the pineapple. Finally, add a small dollop of whipped topping at the end of the skewer, pressing gently to secure. The order should be: pineapple (yellow) on bottom, orange in middle, whipped topping (white) on top.
  5. Repeat: Continue assembling skewers until all fruit is used. You should get about 20 to 24 skewers. Arrange them on a platter in neat rows.
  6. Chill (Optional): If not serving immediately, place the platter in the refrigerator for up to 2 hours. Cover loosely with plastic wrap to keep the whipped topping from drying out.
  7. Serve: Remove from refrigerator just before serving. Optionally, sprinkle with shredded coconut or edible glitter for a festive touch.

Notes

For best results, dry fruit thoroughly to prevent whipped topping from sliding off. Assemble close to serving time. If making ahead, cut fruit and drain oranges the night before, then assemble up to 2 hours before serving. For a dairy-free version, use coconut whipped cream.
