These Easy Mummy Hot Dog Bites are the perfect Halloween snack! Made with just hot dogs, crescent roll dough, and mustard, they are incredibly easy to make and always a hit at parties. Flaky, buttery, and spooky-cute, they are a fun treat for kids and adults alike.

  • 8 hot dogs (standard size, preferably straight)
  • 1 can (8 oz) refrigerated crescent roll dough (e.g., Pillsbury)
  • Yellow mustard (or ketchup, for eyes)
  • 1 egg (for egg wash, optional)
  • 1 tablespoon water (for egg wash, optional)
  • Sesame seeds or poppy seeds (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Pat the hot dogs dry with a paper towel to help the dough stick.
  3. Open the can of crescent roll dough. Unroll and separate along perforations into 8 triangles. Cut each triangle lengthwise into 3-4 thin strips, about ¼ to ½ inch wide.
  4. Take one hot dog and start wrapping a strip of dough around it from one end to the other, slightly overlapping. Leave a small gap at the top for the eyes. Repeat with all hot dogs.
  5. Place the wrapped hot dogs on the prepared baking sheet, leaving space between each.
  6. Optional: In a small bowl, beat the egg with 1 tablespoon of water. Brush a thin layer of egg wash over the dough on each mummy. Sprinkle with sesame or poppy seeds if desired.
  7. Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the dough is golden brown and the hot dogs are heated through.
  8. Let cool on the baking sheet for 1-2 minutes. Using a squeeze bottle or toothpick, add two small dots of mustard (or ketchup) to the exposed hot dog at the top for eyes.
  9. Serve immediately while warm.

Notes

For best results, use room temperature dough to prevent cracking. Don’t overwrap the hot dogs; leave a little room for the dough to expand. Add mustard eyes after baking to keep them bright. Assemble up to 4 hours ahead and refrigerate until ready to bake. For a cheesy version, slit the hot dog and stuff with cheese before wrapping.
