Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/2 cup (113g) unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup (200g) granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs, room temperature
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/3 cup (40g) unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 cup (60g) all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/3 cup (80g) creamy peanut butter (like Jif or Skippy)
  • 2 tablespoons (15g) powdered sugar
  • 1 tablespoon milk (any kind)
  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 cup (45g) semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1/2 teaspoon coconut oil or vegetable oil

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line an 8×8-inch baking pan with parchment paper, leaving overhang on two sides. Lightly grease the parchment.
  2. In a large microwave-safe bowl, melt the butter in 30-second bursts. Let cool for a minute.
  3. Add granulated sugar to the melted butter and whisk until combined. Add eggs and vanilla extract; whisk vigorously for about 30 seconds until smooth and slightly thickened.
  4. In a separate small bowl, whisk together cocoa powder, flour, salt, and baking powder. Add to wet mixture and fold gently with a rubber spatula until just combined. Do not overmix.
  5. In a small bowl, combine peanut butter, powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract. Stir until smooth and spreadable.
  6. Pour brownie batter into prepared pan and spread evenly. Drop spoonfuls of peanut butter mixture randomly over the top. Use a butter knife or skewer to swirl into the batter with figure-eight motions; do not over-swirl.
  7. Bake on middle rack for 25 to 28 minutes. Insert a toothpick into the center; if it comes out with a few moist crumbs, brownies are done. Cool in pan on a wire rack for 30 minutes, then lift out using parchment and cool completely.
  8. Once completely cool, use a football-shaped cookie cutter (about 3 inches long) to cut out shapes. For cleanest cuts, chill brownies in fridge for 15 minutes first.
  9. For chocolate drizzle: combine chocolate chips and coconut oil in a small microwave-safe bowl. Microwave in 20-second bursts, stirring between each, until smooth. Transfer to a small piping bag or zip-top bag with a tiny corner snipped off. Drizzle zigzag lines over each football brownie. Let set for 15 minutes at room temperature or 5 minutes in the fridge.

Notes

For cleanest football shapes, chill brownies in fridge for 15 minutes before cutting. Save brownie scraps for sundaes or snacking. Brownies taste even better the next day. Store in airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days. Freeze for up to 3 months.
