These quick 2-ingredient cinnamon apple dumplings are fast, simple, and deeply satisfying. Made with crescent roll dough and fresh apples, they deliver a flaky, golden texture with soft, jammy apple filling in under 25 minutes.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 medium-sized apples (Granny Smith recommended)
  • 1 can (8 rolls) refrigerated crescent roll dough (Pillsbury original style recommended)
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon (Saigon cinnamon recommended)
  • 2 tablespoons butter, melted (optional)
  • Chopped pecans or walnuts (optional)
  • Caramel sauce for drizzling (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease an 8×8 baking dish with butter or non-stick spray.
  2. Peel, core, and cut each apple into 8 wedges (about 16 wedges total). Keep them uniform in size for even cooking.
  3. Unroll the crescent dough and separate into 8 triangles along the perforated lines. If the dough cracks, press it back together.
  4. Place one apple wedge at the wide end of a dough triangle. Roll it up, starting at the wide end and tucking the point under the bottom. Place each wrapped dumpling seam-side down in the prepared baking dish. Repeat with all 8 wedges. Tuck any leftover apple wedges into the dish around the dumplings.
  5. Optional: Melt 2 tablespoons of butter and brush it over the tops of the dumplings.
  6. Mix 2 tablespoons sugar with 1 teaspoon cinnamon in a small bowl. Sprinkle this mixture evenly over the dumplings.
  7. Bake for 18-22 minutes, or until the dough is golden brown and the apples are tender when pierced with a fork.
  8. Let the dumplings rest in the dish for 5 minutes before serving. Serve warm.

Notes

For best results, use firm apples like Granny Smith to prevent sogginess. Let the crescent dough sit at room temperature for 5 minutes before unrolling for easier handling. If the tops brown too quickly, tent with foil for the last 5 minutes. Double the recipe for a 9×13 dish and add a few extra minutes to baking time. Leftover dumplings can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
